The Halloren Museum

Sure enough this had nothing to do with the battlefield of Jena Auerstedt, but it is such an amazing place that we would like to show you some highlights. The chocolate museum is run by the oldest chocolate making company in Germany. A visit of the museum is I am sure, a highlight of your trip.

The most famous display is the so-called chocolate room. A living room 27 square meter in size made of chocolate. The room on display is patterned after a room out of the time period when the company was founded.

The walls are made of chocolate siding 1.3 m high. The larger plates plates have a weight of 20 kg each, the medium sized plates have a weight of 12 kg and the small plates have a weight of 6 kg, all cast of solid chocolate. Altogether 51 plates 20mm thick are attached to a wooden wall.

The ceiling is made not of plaster but delicious marzipan. The floor is the only part of the room made not of chocolate but from exotic wood.

Even the furniture, the cub-board, plates, flower-vases, cup and saucers and the spoons are mostly made of chocolate.  The violin, books, fire place are all pieces of chocolate.

Around 1400 kg of chocolate and 300 kg of marzipan (almond-paste)was used to create the room. Responsable for creating the room was master chocoladier Claudia Heimann. She used different techniques to create her master-piece. Also of note are the pictures on the walls enhancing the room. Without question it was a challenging project for  Claudia Heimann.

The room of course is air-conditioned.

The new highlight is a model of the old city-hall. Another chocolate master-piece of the museum. It took 2000 hours to create is made of white and dark chocolade. The building is made in the scale of 1:18. The dimension are over 2.4 meter long for the mail building and 1.8 meter for the baroque wing. Impressive is also the weight of the model. 1000 kg of chocolate were used.
